#Travel1: 5 Tips for travelling

Travelling by air can be quite a stressful experience. You have to get to the airport on time, make sure you check in, go through security, get to the right gate, etc., But most of all, you mustn’t miss your plane! Here are 5 things you can do to help put your mind at rest.

An empty bottle

Make sure you have one so that if you get thirsty, you won’t have to buy an overpriced one in the airport. Just make sure it’s empty when you go through security so that they don’t confiscate it. You can refill it in the airport or in the airplane.

A folder

They’re really useful as they allow you to keep all your important documents in one place and put your mind at ease. You know where everything is, none of it will get crumpled as easily and you will save time at check-ins and what not.

Entertainment

It can really be whatever you want:

  • A Gameboy is compact, doesn’t take up much space and you can use it for hours on end. However, make sure you have spare batteries or a charger for when the power runs low.

  • You could also take a pack of cards; they’re great for playing with your friends or alone. It’s even a great way of meeting new people! However the one down side is that it’s not really practical for in the plane as there isn’t much space and if there is any turbulence, they will probably fall on the floor.

  • My favourite is a good book. It is really unsociable, but when you’re travelling alone, it’s ideal. If you can afford it, get a Kindle: it can store a lot of books which means you will most likely never run out of reading material. However make sure it is fully charged before you leave and don’t forget to take the charger! But, if you’re like me and you love the feel of holding a book in your hands, feeling the pages as you turn them, go for an actual book. Just make sure you don’t read so fast that you finish before the end of your trip and end up lugging around dead weight.

Comfortable shoes

You are going to be walking around, probably pulling a suitcase. Comfy shoes are a must, especially if you’re going to a huge airport and your gate is on the other side! You don’t want to have to deal with painful blisters while you’re traveling. That doesn’t stop you however from taking a pair of gorgeous shoes for your nights out!

Layers

Airplanes can be very cold even if they turn the heating on. And some airports are the same. On the other hand an airport can also be quite warm and if you’re walking a lot, carrying or pulling a bag, you will probably get hot. So the solution is to wear layers. If you get hot, you can just take off a layer or two and once you’re warm, just put your layers back on as needed.
